Day 95: favorite 80s movies

Earlier this week I noticed that a lot of my musical posts are about the 80s. Not a big surprise since growing up is a period where you make lots of experiences and memories. The 80s started when I was 6, and finished when I was 16, so it makes sense that a lot of all my memories where made in this period.

Besides music there were als lots of great movies I have seen in the 80s, so today I’m looking back at these. There are a lot more 80s movies that I discovered at a later period in life, so today it is just about movies I experienced in the 80s.

10. Robocop (1987)

I remember seeing this one in the cinema with my dad and a friend. The gents went to this movie, the ladies to a more suitable movie for the ladies.

9. The Breakfast club (1985)

Think I saw this one at a film night at school. Off course I wanted to be the cool guy played by Judd Nelson, while in fact I was a total geek at that age.

8. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

Can I assume that every kid from around the same age has seen this one in the cinema?

7. The Cannonball Run (1981)

Not exactly sure, but I think when I was around 14 or so my parent went on holiday. I stayed that week at my grandmothers. I brought an extra TV so we could both watch our own programs. One of the movies that I saw that week was the Cannonball Run. Not the best movie, but sure a great memory. Looking back at the trailer I think I see why the movie made an impression…

6. Ferris Buellers Day Off (1986)

Another movie school night at school I guess.

5. Annie 1982

If I’m correct I mentioned this one in an earlier blog. From around the same time as ET. Saw this in the cinema with the whole family.

4. Octopussy (1983)

This is the first Bond movie I watched in the cinema, and this is where the family tradition started.

3. The Jewel of the Nile (1985)

I did not see these in the cinema if I’m correct, but saw them later on TV. Great adventures with a lot of humor.

2. Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Also mentioned in anearlier blog. First movie I did see in the cinema without parental supervision. Funny movie, but walking at Utrecht Central Station at night was a bit scary at that age.

1. The Goonies (1985)

Off course I wanted to go on a treasurehunt at that age!
