Day 64: Annoying earworms

Earworm: a catchy song or tune that runs continually through a person’s mind. If you are sensitive for this phenomenon you might want to stop reading and skip today’s Top10. If not, carry on reading at your own risk. Don’t blame me if I ruin your day by placing some annoying tunes in your head.

Earworms, sometimes I have no clue why a tune just pops up in my head out of nowhere. Sometimes I pick it up because I hear a tune on the radio or because someone around you is humming a tune. And when I have a tune in my head it’s never a tune that I could live with. I would not have a problem if Pink Floyd’s Shine on your crazy diamond would be in my head all day long. But no, most of the times it are just really annoying tunes. And in addition, most of the times it is just a small part of the song. A part of the melody, a chorus, or just a small part of the lyrics. Constantly on repeat. Sometimes the remedy is just looking up the song and once I have heard it completely, it has left my mind.

Anyway, last night I had one of the most horrible songs ever in my head. Over and over again. Thank god it was gone at a certain point, because some music I just refuse to look up. Anyway, this got me thinking about the most annoying music you can have stuck in your head. Here’s my list.

10. Narada Michael Walden & Patti Austin – Gimme Gimme Gimme

For some reason this one is stuck in my head for a few months now. Sometimes it’s gone, but then I hear it on the radio and BOOM it’s back. Meanwhile I’m starting to make my own phrases with it.

9. Abba – Dancing Queen

As mentioned in my intro, I have either the chorus, the melody or another part stuck in my head, never a complete song.

8. Anita Meyer – Why tell me why

The part starting at 0:51 on constant repeat, annoying!!!

7. Hanson – Mmmbop

Just Mmmbop, Mmmbop, Mmmbop over and over again. And on a bad day you also see parts of the video in your head.

6. Los del Rio – Macarena

For this song there are also too many parts that can sneak up in your brain. No further explanation in an attempt to avoid this.

5. Eiffel 65 – Blue

Damn, why am I doing this list? Must be some weitd kind of masochism.

4. Susanne Vega – Tom’s Diner

A couple of weeks ago one of my colleagues had this earworm and was humming this. Off course me and some other colleagues suffered from this and pick it up as well. Helpfull as I am I shared an extended version of the track the next day.

3. Efteling – Carnaval Festival

This is the theme song from Carnaval Festival, one of the attractions in Dutch amusement park De Efteling. By far one of the most annoying (but catchy) theme songs ever made. And off course, for this masterpiece, there is also an extended version available.

2. Ed Sheeran

Until a couple of years ago I did not have that many issues with Ed Sheerans music, but then a neighbour on the camping played his music quite too much, which ruined it all for me.

For obvious reasons I’m not sharing a music link.

1. Coldplay

And there it is, the number one in this horrible list. Last night I had a Coldplay song in my head. And if there is one band that I cannot stand at all, it’s Coldplay. To prevent my ears from bleeding, I’m not gonna look up which song it was. I would even prefer the sound of a jackhammer above anything by Coldplay. I’m not even sure why except that all sounds like whining to me.

Off course no music or picture from Coldplay, duh. So just a photo from lead singer Chris Martin’s ex wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
