Day 6: Some cars I have driven

I just realized I have my drivers license for more than 30 years. During these years I have driven quite a number of different cars. Started with the car from my driving instructor, after that the cars of my parents, company cars, cars from friends etc etc. Today’s Top10 is a list of cars I have driven and that made an impression to me. Images are just examples, not the exact cars I drove.

10. Suzuki Alto 1.0 GA (1996)

Definately not the coolest car in this collection, but this one had a huge impact on me. I was lucky enough that both my parents has a car when I got my driving license. So I had almost always a car at my disposal. This was most of the times my mother’s car. I made many km’s in this car. Small, not too much power, but a perfect starter car.

9. Volkswagen Transporter T4 TDI

In 1998 I did an internship in Neuss, Germany. Occasionally I had to to some driving for the company, or I was allowed to take one of the cars to go home in the weekend. This was either a VW Golf, or the Transporter. I liked the Transporter the most. High seat, luxury interior with leather seats, double cabin and plenty of power. Little sidenote: the Dutch are not the most friendly fellow road users when you drive around in a car with a German license plate.

8. Nissan Almera 2.2 Dti

My first (short) lease car when I started working at CSC. Certainly not the coolest and most sexy car around. But the car was very comfortable and the 2.2 Dti engine gave enough power to hit a top speed of 215 km/h. Caught a lot of speeding tickets with this one.

This is actually the car I drove.

7. Seat Leon 1.9 TDI

After the Nissan Almera I drove a VW Golf and a Peugeot 206. Actually wanted the Peugeot 308 at that time, but that turned out to be too expensive. Then found out the Seat Leon was within the lease budget. Occasionally I see the old model driving, I still prefer this model to newer ones. Really nice car to drive.

6. Kia Sportage

Our current car. Just love the higher seat. Lots of comfort, great to drive.

5. Ferrari 360 Spider

My cousin has his own car company, therefore I occasionally I have the opportunity to drive some really cool cars. In 2008 I got the opportunity to drive this bad boy. The power was amazing, I almost spun when I drove away.

4. Subaru Impreza WRX

Back in 2001 one of my coworkers ordered this one. Again, amazing power. We had quite some fun with this one.

3. Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI

A holiday girlfriend from a friend of mine drove this. It was at the times when there were no celphones yet. I was on holiday and my parents were going to call me in the phone booth opposite of the camping. I was late so borrowed this car to be on time.

2. Hummer H2

My cousin had this one as a gimmick when he opened his company. Off course I asked if I could take it for a spin. Damn this one was huge. I was actually wondering if I was driving on the right or left lane. I also remember that I thought I was going so fast while I was ‘only’ driving 100. Turned out to be miles instead of km/h.

1. Audi A6 Avant TDI

Since the other cars in this Top10 list, this might be an odd choice. Great to drive, great handling, great power, und so weiter. My absolute favorite car ever is the bigger brother of this one, the RS6. So I guess driving this one formed the basis for my favorite.
