When Natasja and me where on our 2nd holiday in Thailand together we went to the beautiful island Koh Mook. When we were on a walk we came across a cute little puppy dog. This got us thinking about getting a dog ourselves. My preference was a brown labrador, but since our home was not that big, that was not an option. We ended up looking for a parson terrier which is a little bit bigger than a jack russell. But today nine years ago we went to have ‘just a look’ at a jack russel nest. And then this tiny little cute creature actually picked me. She crawled up to my feet and up on me. We had plans to have a look at another puppy nest the next day, but since I did not want to take the risk that this one was gone, we took her and take her with us.
In the beginning I felt a bit tricked into it, but that feeling was soon gone. She is so cute and funny, and the unconditional love of a dog is really great. Meanwhile we are nine years further and I cannot imagine life without her.
Since Natasja got to decide which dog breed we got, I got to pick the name. Still do not know exactly why, but I picked Annie, a typical old fashioned Dutch name. When people hear what the name of our dog is, we often hear that their mother (in law) has the same name.
As the day we picked up Annie was February 22nd, we declared this Annie Day, and therefore today’s Top10 consists of my favorite Annie’s. Had to do some digging to get ten favorites, but when I noticed a few people have Annie as nickname I got a complete list.
If you have an Annie in your life, please pay some extra attention to her in celebration of Annie day.
10. Annie
You cannot make a list without this movie character of course. The original will come later in this list, but this remake from 2014 was funny as well.
9. Annie Schilder
One of the most famous Annie’s in Holland is Annie Schilder, singer of BZN. The music is not my cup of tea, but you cannot bypass an Annie for that reason. She is actually called Anny, but I had to be a bit creative to complete this list.
8. Annie Wersching
Do you remember the TV serie 24? If so, Annie Wersching played the part of Renee Walker.
7. Anne ‘Annie’ Hathaway
Another tiny cheat, but sonce Anne’s nickname is Annie, it counts for me. American Oscar winning actress known for a lot of different movies, both serious and funny. And when you talk funny, it is a small step to James Corden who challenged Annie to a rap battle which you can see in the video below.
6. Annie Lennox
Annie Lennox is the singer of British synthpop dup Eurythmics. Their biggest hit is Sweet Dreams which I have heard in many different remixes over the years, but the original is still a great track as well.
5. Annie Leibovitz
I’m not gonna pretend I know a lot about photography, but what I do know that Annie Leibovitz does know a thing or two about it. She is one of the greatist photographers in the world. She is most known for her portraits of celebrities. For more info check her Wikipedia page or this link to see a few of her best known photo’s.
4. Annie MG Schmidt
Not sure about this one outside of the Netherlands, but if you are born and raised in the Netherlands, there is no chance you never have read a book of Annie MG Schmidt. Known for Jip & Janneke, Abeltje and Pluk van de Petteflet.
3. Annie de Rooij
Annie de Rooij is a character from Dutch comedian Paul de Leeuw. Annie is married to Bob de Rooij (also played by Paul). Both were very succesful characters in Paul’s weekly television shows in the early ’90s. In 1995 Paul recorded the movie filmpje with bot characters. You can watch the complete movie on Youtube.
2. Annie
Back to my childhood, I remeber watching this movie from 1982 in the local cinema. Good memories.
1. Annie
And off course this number one is no surprise. There are not enough words to describe this little creature and our love for her. So instead of describing, just some extra photo’s.
Happy Annie Day.
