In an earlier list I mentioned my favorite series. In another one I discussed favorite actors, but until now I have not talked about my favorite movies yet. Why not? Maybe it is just too hard. I have seen too many movies over the years, there is just too much. Nevertheless I’m still gonna try it. By the time I finish writing this blog my own opinion might be changed meanwhile. So here is a list of 10 of my favorite movies.
10. Entourage (2015)
Sequel to the entourage series. Same vibe, same actors, same kind of stories. For me just a funny feelgood movie which I can watch over and over again.
9. Reservoir Dogs (1992)
When taling about Tarantino movies most people prefer Pulp Fiction. Not me, I like Reservoir Dogs a lot more. What a story, what a cast. Love the little dance when Mr Blonde cuts off that ear.
8. The Pianist (2002)
I mentioned this one before in the holocaust remembrance list. Great story about a terrible period. This movie got 3 well deserved Oscars (best actor, best director, best writing).
7. American Beauty (2000)
Not sure if it is still cool to like Kevin Spacey these days, but as an actor he is out of his league.
6. Any Given Sunday (1999)
Not your average Pacino movie, pretty underestimated as well in my opinion. Only for that speech it should have gotten more appreciation.
5. Gladiator (2000)
Another multiple Oscar winner in the list. I’m still surprised Hans Zimmer did not get the Oscar for best music in a movie.
4. Sleepers (1996)
Robert de Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Jason Patric, Brad Pitt, quite the line-up isn’t it?
3. The Godfather (1972)
This movie is actually older than me. But it’s not about this one only. The whole trilogy is superb. Time has changed though, so if you are planning to (re)watch this one, be prepared for some slowness.
2. Star Wars (1977)
Again, it is not about this one only, but also about the first trilogy, the 2nd one, the 3rd, and the other movies. The characters, the storylines, the matter for detail. Etc, etc, etc.
1. Goodfellas (1990)
It is a good thing that when growing up you learn to see what is real, and what is not. Based on my taste in movies, my career could have went in a totally different direction. It is not this one only, that is a favorite, but maybe the genre. Since this one is now mentioned as number one, I feel a sort of obligation to mention a few other favorites from this genre which I have all seen many many times. Scarface, Heat, Casino, und so weiter. In this one some great parts from Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta.
