Day 320: Favorite Record Labels

More talks about music. And before music gets known by us, the audience, the artist needs a record label to release the music. So which record labels made impression to me? Continuously, not just for one release. Let’s find out today. And since it seems I have a critic audience I will give an explanation with each label. And off course share a favorite track released on that label.

1. Pure Trance Recordings

No surprise I guess? The label founded by favorite DJ Solarstone. And not only this label, but also the sublabels Pure Trance Progressive, Pure Trance Neon & Pure Breaks. Home to the releases of Solarstone off course, but also from many other great artists both old and young.

Very nice to see that former Finnergy hero Proteus found a new home at Pure Trance with his trancier stuff.

2. Liquid Sound Design

I intially stumbled on LSD because some Orb tracks and albums were released on this label. The label was founded in 1998 by Youth, longtime contributor on many Orb releases. But besides the Orb stuff there is so many great music on this label. I think I have collected about a 3rd of their releases on either vinyl or cd, and have almost everything on digital releases. Please check the labels Bandcamp page and find out for yourself.

One of the finest discoveries on the label is Kuba’s Animalia album. Pure bliss.

3. Global underground

Not sure yet, but the Global Underground mix series might be my favorite. The first one GU001 was released in 2001 and was mixed by Tony de Vit. The first one I bought was GU013, Sasha’s Ibiza mix. Other DJ’s that mixed GU cd’s are John Digweed, Deep Dish, Paul Oakenfold, Nick Warren, und so weiter. And the serie is still going on. Last week GU045 Brooklyn, mixed by Danny Tenaglia was released.

We also have some Dutch pride since Joris Voorn mixed GU043: Rotterdam in 2021.

4. Fantasy Enhancing

In 2019 I was tipped to check Si Matthew’s Decoding Signals album. Damn, that’s some great stuff. After that I started following this label. If you are into ambient, check this label. I meanwhile bought so many great stuff from this label from artists like Autumn of Communion, Mick Chillage, Moss Garden and Sven Kossler & Si Matthews.

5. Renaissance

Home of the Mix Collection series mixed by Sasha & Digweed and many other great compilations.

6. Perfecto

Found and still owned by DJ Paul Oakenfold. See my earlier blog about him for more info. So many great release on this label. Current favorite one is this one.

7. Tidy Trax

UK Hardhouse & Hardtrance label founded by Andy Pickles & Amadeus Mozart aka The Tidy Boys. My favorite release would off course be the Flash Harry remix of Till Tears Do Us Part by Heaven’s Cry. The unofficial anthem of Tidy Summer Camp 2004.

8. Nukleuz

More hardhouse. Just like with Tidy Trax I have a lot of records from this label. Home of producers like Lisa Pin-Up, Organ Donors, BK, Andy Farley, Nick Sentience and many many more. My favorite (as well as Natasja’s favorite hardhouse track) is BK’s Revolution.

9. Bonzai

Damn, that label picture is nice! Bonzai is a Belgian label which presents some of the harder trance and techno styles. Many many great releases on this label. My personal favorite is Push’s Universal Nation.

10. Songbird

Not the most familair label I guess? But what if I tell you that this is the label that released Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise cd’s? I loved those cd’s, especially the first three.
