As a kid I played a lot with Lego. Building the sets according planning, but also made new creations by mixing all peaces together. I could loose myself in it completely, forget time and spent hours and hours. A couple of years ago I rediscovered Lego again. Or in terms of the Lego world speaking, I came back from the dark ages (period in your life where you were not interested in Lego). It turns out I am a true AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego). It started when I received some cool Lego gifts. After that I found out there is a local service nearby where you can rent Lego sets for a fixed price per week. Since the bigger sets are pretty expensive this service made it feasable to build some of the larger sets. So today I’m providing a list off the coolest sets I built in the last couple of years.
10. LEGO Creator Expert crocodile Locomotive – 10277
When I was a kid and with my parents in Austria we used to see this types of locomotives a lot. So it was pretty cool to find out Lego made a set of this. Great details and the way it is presented is very nice.
9. LEGO Volkswagen T1 Camper – 10220
I got this set as a birthday gift. Lots of great details in the interior, and who does not love the original VW T1 vans? I bought an additional lightning set so the T1 was front- back- and interior lights.
8. LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 – 10271
This is the first set I got after coming out of the ‘dark ages’. A gift from my parents. This is an extra special one since my mother used to drive a Fiat 500 a long time ago.
7. LEGO Creator Expert James Bond Aston Martin DB5 – 10262
This model is a bit more angular than the original Aston Martin DB5. But still a great build of one of the coolest cars ever. The DB5 might pop-up in a future list about the coolest cars.
6. LEGO Star Wars AT-AT – 75288
The first Star Wars set in this list. The small version of the AT-AT. Meanwhile a UCS (Ultimate Colector Series) version of this vehicle came out. Still want to rent and build that one, but untill then this one is still a favourite.
5. LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon – 75257
Another great birthday gift. This one I got from my girlfriend. I’m starting to repeat myself, but again, I still love all the tiny details. As you can see in the picture this set also has some really cool action fugures.
4. LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster – 10261
3. LEGO Creator Expert Taj Mahal – 10256
This built is actually a co-production. Chosen by my girlfriend and built together. Still hope to visit the real Taj Mahal one day.
2. LEGO Technic Liebherr R 9800 Excavator – 42100
After building about a dozen of the newer sets I decided to rent a Lego Technic set. And not a simple one. This was quite the challenge. Lots of running parts, 4108 pieces in total. Made a few mistakes so I had to break some parts down and start all over again. But after all I made it and all was working as it should.
1. LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon – 75192
At number one the UCS Millenium Falcon. Off course I rented this one since the price of it is around € 850,- In total this one took my about 7 weeks. For a few parts only 1 exist so in a total of 7541 pieces searching for the right part can take some time. Great action figures and detailing, definately worth the time.
When I was a little boy I was besides building also playing with all these builds. At present time for me it is like a sort of meditation. Being fully focussed on building these sets really takes my mind of all other things going on at the moment. It has been a while, but I’m planning to rent one of the other Star Wars UCS sets really soon. If you are also interested at renting Lego and you are based in the Netherlands, please have a look at Bouwsteenwinkel.
