Day 291: RJ’s Amsterdam Dance Event Tips

Every year in October Amsterdam hosts world-renowned electronic music conference and festival. This event is a global gathering of electronic music professionals, artists, and enthusiasts, making it one of the most significant and influential events in the electronic dance music (EDM) industry.

ADE typically spans from Wednesday till Sunday, during which attendees can participate in a wide range of activities, including conferences, workshops, panels, and networking opportunities that cover various aspects of the electronic music business. These events provide valuable insights into the latest trends, technologies, and issues shaping the EDM industry.

In addition to its educational and networking components, ADE features an extensive music festival with performances by some of the world’s top DJs and electronic music artists. These showcases take place at various venues across Amsterdam, creating a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere for both music professionals and music lovers.

Since today is the start of ADE, I am sharing my favorite events. If I was still younf and had the energy from 20 years ago I would find a way to attend them all. But thinking about that already makes me feel tired. I will only attend two daytime events this year, and that’s OK.

1. Black Recordings Pop Up Store

During ADE Black Hole Recordings is hosting a pop up store where a great variety of DJ’s will show up to play a set. I’m heading there this afternoon to see Orjan Nilsen and Solarstone.

2. Random Vinyl Marathon

For the 4th year Random Vinyl is organizing a 60 hour non-stop vinyl only marathon. This marathon will be broadcasted on Mixcloud. My planning is to show up on Friday morning for Higgens, JP and Fausto.

3. Electronic Elements @ Lagerwal Noord – Thursday October 19

An invites only event from Armada Music. I actually have an invitation, only downpoint is that you have to be in before 20:00, and Miss Monique, the main reason why I had interest in this party just starts at 00:00. So due to my planning for Friday I have to skip this one.

4. Pleinvrees @ WesterUnie – Thursday October 19

Another events where Miss Monique is playing, just as is Nora En Pure. Rest of the line-up is unknown to me. Great location!

5. Hernan Cattaneo & Nick Warren @ Transformatorhuis – Friday October 20

Both DJ’s I have never seen live before. I loved Nick Warren’s Global Underground mixes.

6. Dimitri & Isis @ Kaap Oost – Friday October 20

Both I have seen many many times in the good old Waakzaamheid days.

7. Royksopp @ NDSM Warehouse – Friday October 20

Norwegian band Royksopp playing live in the NDSM Warehouse. I played their debut album Melody AM a million times.

8. This Is Trance @ Panama – Friday October 20

Thrillseekers, Aly & Fila, Bryan Kearney, John Askew, man this should be a great party, what a line-up for trance lovers.

9. Sasha b2b Patrice Bäumel @ Het Sieraad – Saturday October 21

More progressive heroes who did deliver great Global Underground albums.

10. Boris Brejcha In Concert @ AFAS Live – Saturday October 21

Watched/listened to a few of Boris livesets recently, great stuff.

Damn, after creating this list I do feel the urgent need to adjust my planning and attend a few more events. But unfortunately you can’t have it all, and choices need to be made…
