Today it is a very special day, it is my birthday. I just turned 50. Can you believe that? Neither do I. I don’t feel like 50. But maybe that is because in my perception 50 is old, and I don’t feel old. Sometimes I still feel like 20, ok on most of the days that I think I am 20 and act like it, I feel like 60 on the day after.
But when I was still just a little boy, looking at my grandparents, they were actually old. They dressed old, seemed old and acted old. Later when I was around my 20’s, 50 seemed very old to me as well. Getting to the age of 30 was quite a big thing. 40 did not bother me at all, and 50 is also just another number. You are so old as you feel.
So for today’s list I had a close look at the people around me. There are quite a few special characters available who are also 50, or about to become 50. So in today’s list I share those people and show them my appreciation. Move ya all💖
1. Me, Myself & I
If I’ve learned anything, it’s that you should always prioritize yourself, and never sacrifice yourself for the benefit of others. So therefore I am putting myself at the first spot in this list, and feel good about it.
2. Natasja
Funny, beautiful, kind, careful, surprising, partner in crime, sparring partner, great company, clumsy, tough, there are just too many words to describe this creature. It started with a holiday as good friends, and here we are almost 11 years later, and still growing. Love you babe💖
3. Hilmar
Another partner in crime, fellow house and vinyl freak, bbq master, camping mate, und so weiter. Hilmar and I have been mates since kindergarten. We shared fun, we shared tears, and we will most likely do untill we die. Love you bro.
4. Erwin
Another friend who I know for a very long time. I met Erwin for the first time on holiday in 1990. Did some good partying together, made many great memories. Since he is living in France we don’t see eachother very much, but when we do we enjoy the company. This year we had a lovely stay at both his old and new home and met his lovely wife Linda.
5. Jeroen
Trainer, coach, consiglieri, wise man, friend, whatever. I know Jeroen for a bit more than two years. He helped me getting to know myself and my motivations a lot better. Jeroen is one of the guys behind Mannenkracht. I recently visited their festival, you can see the aftermovie here. Want to know more? Let me know.
6. Suzanne
My niece who is just half a year older than I am. And although we don’t see eachother that often it is always good when we see eachother. She is also a succesful attorney. She specialises in employment law and helped me out on multiple occassions.
7. Justin
If you think I am an Orb geek/neird, meet Justin, he is taking collecting to the next level. We still have not met eachother in real life, but I am sure at some point it will happen.
8. Ram
DJ Ram. I got to know him first as one half of (hard)trance duo Bas & Ram. We had quite some adventures at that time. After the duo split up his career got a new boost. He has been pretty succesful for the past decade.
9. Steve
Another person who I have actually never met. Steve Helstrip is the man behind trance act The Thrillseekers. Not on my radar for a long time, but after watching his Luminosity 2019 producer set I have to admit I know his work for a long long time, and am lovin’ it.
10. Dark Side Of The Moon
On the last spot not a person, but album. As you might have gotten from earlier blogs, Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands. This groundbreaking album was released in March 1973. Last year I saw an integral performance of this album by Pink Floyd Project, a dutch PF tribute band.
Dear Rob,
Your kind words brought me to tears. Having a mate for so long and through shit and (fuck) all, is something special. I’m looking forward to our 50 years friendschip anniversary within a couple of years. I hope you saved a lot by then. I’m intending a belter of a week or even weeks. I will be unavailable during our celebrations. …….. you might guessed. I got quite a fantasy …… and I only will accept premium balls….!!!! Take care brother.
