Day 259: Favorite DJ’s

In 1991 I started clubbing, and in present time I am still going occasionally. So over all these years I have seen many many DJ’s. In the early days it was just two or three DJ’s during a night. Unfortunately that has changed over the years. These days it’s just a bunch of short sets on a line-up. And if you are unlucky there is an annoying MC in between. Yep, the old man is whining again.

Back to the subject, my favorite DJ’s. I could easily make a Top 10 list for a lot of subgenres but let’s start in general first. And why are they a favorite? Could be because I have seen them many times, but could also be because of just one great mix, performance or track. And after finishing this list I will most likely think about all the ones I forgot. Who are my favorites from a 32 year clubbing career? Let’s find out. And for your listening pleasure I will add some great sets by these DJ’s, enjoy!

1. Solarstone

Number one is a no brainer. I have been listening to his radioshows for more than 10 years. Love the Pure Trance sound and movement. And today I will see him perform again at Summerlake Festival.

2. Paul Oakenfold

Another man who hardly disappoints. An absolute hero who played a big role in the global trance world. Made some great albums, mixes and remixes.

3. Tiesto

Not a big fan of his current sound, but in the early 00’s, wow. Great livesets, great mix albums, great remixes.

4. Tidy Boys

Let’s speed things up. Moving along from trance to hardhouse. These guys had a huge impact on all things hardhouse with their label Tidy Trax label and parties. I am actually still recovering from Tidy Summer Camp 2004.

5. Orkidea

I discovered this gut way too late. He has been DJ’ing for over 30 years, but on my radar for just a decade. This man really made some great stuff and did some great sets.

6. Fausto

From groupie to friend, thats how my story went with Fausto. Great guy who can tear a dancefloor up. Had some great moments with this man over the years.

7. Miss Monique

This lady is a runner up in the list. Only discovered her just a couple of years ago. But I just love this progressive trance, melodic techno, or whatever they call it these days. Great music for working, driving, partying, or just anything.

8. Steve Hill

Love Steve’s sound with lots of great vocals in between the harder stuff. Too bad this guy lives in Australia so we don’t see him that often.

9. Sasha & Digweed

Love their progressive sound from back in the day. I have listed to their Northern Exposure CD’s countless times. They played a big part in my musical adventures in the late 90’s.

10. Judge Jules

Heard some great sets from this guy over the years, but most of all I have played his Dance Wars CD like a million times.
