Day 232: Favorites from 1998

Today was a really lazy Sunday. Besides my daily swim I haven’t done very much. Did some DJ practising, sorted some record and added them to Discogs, but that’s it. We spent most of the afternoon and evening watching TV. A couple of days ago I mentioned in my Ben Affleck list that we had not seen Air yet. We did watch that today, and if we had watched it earlier it would definately had made the list.

Since Matt Damon is also starring in Air I was planning a list of favorite movies with him. I already made a shortlist, but that one will follow tomorrow. When I went upstairs to write today’s list I suddenly felt like doing a year Top 10 again.

I cannot explain why 1998 popped up, so let’s just go for it. 1998 was the year were Raymond ‘Barney’ van Barneveld won his first Embassy tournament. It was also the year where Bill Clinton denied having sex with ‘that woman’. On a personal front, in 1998 I did an internship in Germany and went from Germany to Frehel for just one weekend.

Musically wise there were a few numbers that sticked with me. Here are my favorites from 1998. Enjoy!

1. Natalie Imbruglia – Torn

2. Manau – La Tribu de Dana

And there it is again in another list.

3. Lighthouse Family – High

Yep, I mentioned this one before as well.

4. Stardust – Music Sound Better With You

So catchy.

5. Hermes House Band – I Will Survive

In Holland this had already been a hit in 1994, in France (and Germany) the success came just in 1998. I remember hearing this song on French radio when hitchhiking from the train station to the camping.

6. Robbie Williams – Angels

7. Energy 52 – Cafe Del Mar ’98 (Nalin & Kane Remix)

In this year I also bought the Kiss Mix 98 mix cd. This track was on it.

8. Busta Rhymes – Turn It Up / Fire It Up

Great usage of the Knight Rider theme in this track.

9. Anouk – Nobody’s Wife

From her 1997 debut album Together Alone.

10. Madonna – Frozen

From her brilliant Ray of Light album, still gets an occasional play every now and then.
