Day 164: Favorites from 1996

I was kinda loosing track of what kind of lists I already posted. Don’t want to create a double list of course. Althougf it could be possible since sometimes after posting a list, I suddenly get reminded about other possible entries for the list.

Anyway, to make life a bit easier for both myself and my readers, I added a search button to the site.

I had several ideas for todays list, but after adding the search button I somehow changed my mind. Why not do another list with music from a specific year. Not sure why, but I chose for 1996.

Besides the tracks below there were quite a few of my favorite albums released that year. My favorite hiphop album by Nas: It was written, and also one of my favorite DJ mix albums Dance Wars: The Return Of Judge Jules Vs. John Kelly.

But for now let’s focus on some great singles that were released that year, or alt least some with good memories.

10. Hakkûhbar – Gabbertje

Dutch parody on the massive gabber culture. I actually met one of the guys on holiday in France. At some point I visited him in the studio, and at that moment a fax came in with the lyrics from that track. After reading it, I said that will be a number one, and it was.

9. OMC – How Bizarre

Pretty catchy isn’t it?

8. Blackstreet ft Dr Dre – No Diggity

Maybe this is one of the songs that got me more interested in hiphop.

7. BBE – Seven days and one week

Still have the cd single somewhere I think.

6. The Fugees – Killing me softly

Quite a succesful year for the Fugees. Besides this song, they also scores with Fu-Gee-La and Ready or Not.

5. Prodigy – Firestarter

One of their biggest hits I guess.

4. 2Pac ft Dr Dre – California love

Wow, that videoclip is still amazing.

3. Robert Miles – Children

Originally written in 1994, but the big succes came in 1996. Robert Miles died of cancer in 2017. Way too young at age 47. This track is still so beautiful.

2. Faithless – Insomnia

I can’t get no sleep…

1. Nas – If I ruled the world

One of the biggerst hits from the It was Written album. As mentioned before, my favorite hiphop album.
