Day 163: Memories of Cap Frehel

For the last decade the nights on the camping have been quiet, but there was I was the night mayor of Frehel and spent almost every night having fun with friends at a camp fire. Back in the day (now I’m sounding really old) there were also lots of people with guitars. So I picked up some campfire favorites.

The local parties in the little villages are also lots of fun. The French are a bit behind on their music, so even today you still hear Boney M at these parties. But also at those parties I built some great musical memories.

So looking back for today here are some of these musical memories of Cap Frehel.

10. The Eagles – Hotel California

This must be one of the most famous campfire songs ever.

9. Van Dik Hout – Stil in mij

One of two Dutch favorite which I always ask my friend Stijn to play.

8. Daisy Dee – Open sesame

A long time ago, people were still burning cd’s. So did I, and I brought some to the local parties and requested the DJ to play some tracks. I especially remember this one. Bouncing around with some dear friends.

7. De Dijk – Als ze er niet is

Another favorite Dutch request. Must be a hell for the other people around the fire since I like to sing a long, but I cannot sing at all.

6. Bruce Springsteen – Streets of Philadelphia

I remember listening to this with a German friend on the beach. Both with one earphone. A week later I got back home, put on the TV and this song was playing.

5. Lighthouse Family – High

This song was played a lot by my friend Ivar. He never learned to play the guitar. But at some point he just learned it himself by listening. Still a great song.

4. Oasis – Don’t look back in anger

Some French dudes were playing this almost every night. And again, I was singing along pretty loud and false. These guys started calling me Sally.

3. Noir Desir – Aux sombres heros de la mer

One of the more serious songs that was song. I actually bought the whole CD after hearing this. Want to know what they are singing about? Here is an English translation.

2. KLF – Chill Out

Nope, not a campfire song at all. Listened to this in the tent of a friend of mine. Probably the music that has had most influence at all to my musical taste.

1. Manau – La tribu de Dana

Off course this is my number one. Manau is a Breton rapgroup, the singer lives in Brittany. The videoclips is shot nearby. And this is the closing song of almost every local party. Again, if you want to know what they sing about, here is a translation. This song is from their Panique Celtique album, highly recommended.
