Day 143: 10 favorites from 1991

So, in the past couple of days I moved on from the 1986 to 2001. Let’s do something in between and have a look at 1991. I was already going out for some time, but mostly to local bars where they played Top40 music. But house music was really upcoming and made it also to the charts.

I also did my first dance moves in legendary dance club De Waakzaamheid. I posted some of my favorite tracks from that club in an earlier list. And most likely there will be another follow up, or a list dedicated to my favorite house classics. So for now I just had a look at the charts from that year and share my favorites. But some exceptions apart, the list still mostly consists of some great dance classics. I think I should also thank the brilliant Turn op the Bass CD series. Enjoy!

OK, creating the shortlist is already an issue. So let’s mention two non-house tracks here, to keep some more space available in the Top 10. Yes, I know, I am pretty good at cheating. But otherwise you would miss Vanilla Ice, and I know some of you can still sing the complete lyrics along. And Chris Isaac’s Wicked Game should also be mentioned. And since I mentioned KLF in some earlier lists, I ditch them here. BOOM, there’s a Top10. Although they could easily be just 10 nr 1s.

10. Jesus Loves You – Generations Of Love

Yep, I admit, I love Boy George’s vocals.

9. C&C Music Factory – Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

8. T99 – Anasthasia

Live performance at BBC’s Top of the Pops. And based on the poor vocals I assume it was really live.

7. Enigma – Sadeness – Part I

First time I heard Gregorian chants, nice!

6. Rozalla – Everybody’s Free

Free to feel good, and that’s exactly what this song does do to you.

5. Crystal Waters – Gypsy Woman

Yep, danced a lot to this in De Waakzaamheid.

4. Nomad – Devotion

Same as the previous number: Waakzaamheid classic.

3. Black Box – Strike It Up

And another one (Waakzaamheid classic).

2. Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy

From their brilliant debut album Blue Lines.

1. Human Resource – Dominator

Just like yesterday’s list, this track has also been remixed many times. What a classic.

And posting dominator reminded me of this funny picture.
