Last week I started playing WordFeud again. Since WordFeud is basically an online version of Scrabble, this got me thinking about my favorite ‘offline’ games. This is the list I came up with.
10. Shogun
Classic two player game that has some similarities with chess.
9. Stratego
Stratego is a strategy board game for two players. The objective of the game is to find and capture the opponent’s Flag, or to capture so many enemy pieces that the opponent cannot make any further moves. Played this one quite a lot.
8. Trivial Pursuit
Doesn’t everyone has this game? Or at least played it once? I assume everyone does!
7. Ludo
In The Netherlands this game is called ‘Mens erger je niet’. When I was young we played this quite often at home. We had a similar game like in the picture below. I always loved slammin the button as hard as I could to make the dice bounce:)
6. The Game Of Life
Played this one also quite a lot during my childhood. Real life turned out to be a bit different than according to the game.
5. Risk
I actually played the PC game more often than the boardgame, but this one cannot be overseen in a gamelist.
4. Catan
Actually a game we still play in present time. Every once in a while we catch up with friends. Have some good food, drinks, and play Catan. Part luck, part strategy, part negotiation skills, you will all need them in this one.
3. Rummikub
One of the better games to bring while on holiday. Also very good to play with only two people. Timeless, and keeping you sharp because of all the thinking about the next steps. We also like to play Triominos, a variant with triangled pieces which is more difficult.
2. Crazy Eights
A cardgame with many names, and many rules. In Dutch this one is called ‘pesten’. Pesten literally translates as bullying in English. We play this quite a lot. Most of the times with just the two of us.
1. Monopoly
The undisputed number one. I used to play this every once in a while with my parents, sister and a good friend of ours. It is way too long ago since we had a session, so time to plan one asap.
