Day 137: Saxophone favorites

Today in 1846, Antone-Joseph Sax patented the saxophone. Wow, that’s 177 years ago. Together with the violin I find the saxophone one of the sexiest instruments. So as you might already suspect (or not since the title already gave it away) today’s Top10 consists of 10 favorite songs where the saxophone plays a big role.

10. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes – (I’ve Had the) Time of My Life

Let’s start with a real cheesy one, but the sax is great.

9. Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You

More cheese

8. Hall & Oates – Maneater

7. Sade – Smooth Operator

Such a sexy song.

6. George Michael – Careless Whisper

The number one slow dance song in the 80s.

5. Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run

Mr Clarence Clemons in the house.

4. Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street

One of the most remarkable saxophone songs ever.

3. Pink Floyd – Us and Them

2. Pink Floyd – Money

I recently saw Dutch Pink Floyd tribute band Pink Floyd Project play this one live, brilliant.

1. Dave Stewart ft Candy Dulfer – Lily was here (Space Centre Medical Unit Hum)

Yep, slipping in an Orb remix. And also some Dutch pride, since Candy Dulfer is Dutch and one of the best saxophone players in the world.
