Day 10: 10 favorite places

Today’s list is a list of favorite places I have actually visited. The list might be a bit boring due to the many favorite places in Thailand.

10. Koh Phangan, Thailand

Koh Phangan is well known for the monthly Full Moon parties which attract people from allover the world. Been there, done that. But besides the parties it is a great island as well with lots of beautiful beaches and nature.

9. Tenerife, Spain

From Thailand we take a trip a bit closer to home. Tenerife is part of the Canary Islands, an island group in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Morocco. We spent a short holiday in October there. When the temperature drops in The Netherlands, Tenerife is still comfortable temperature wise.

8. Leogang, Austria

In Leogang I have learned how to ski. Have not been on wintersport for more than ten years, but it remains a favorite activity. Have not much other area’s to compare, but I love Austria in winter.

7. Zug, Switzerland

I used to travel a lot to Switzerland for work. BHPB had a local office in Baar. Zug is a little bigger and more developed. Since Switzerland is very tax friendly, this area is quite rich. So on one side you have the city of Zurich with all the great shops, on the other hand there is the beauty of nature. Lake Zug, Zug and the neighbouring villages around.

6. Koh Chang, Thailand

So far I have been to Koh Chang twice. It is one of the bigger Thai Islands, but not yet over developed. Although that might have changed over the years since the last time I was there was in 2009. Planning to visit Koh Chang again on our next visit to Thailand.

5. Ibiza, Spain

Another great Spanish Island. Ibiza, the big party island. But off season also a great place to escape the daily routine and recharge.

4. Koh Mook, Thailand

After several trips to Thailand we started to look for the smaller islands. Not that many tourists, not too crowded, just nice and easy. In 2014 we discovered Koh Mook. Just a nice small island with two villages. Not much to do, just relax, and so we did.

3. Koh Jum, Thailand

From Koh Mook to another small island, Koh Jum. This was on the ‘probably visit’ list in 2017. After a couple of days in Bangkok I found out a friend of mine was visiting Koh Jum. So that made it pretty easy to update our plans and we were off to Koh Jum. We had a great couple of days together at Freedom resort. After that we moved to another location. Not much to do on Koh Jum, but if your plan is just to relax, just go there!

2. Koh Samet, Thailand

After spending some time on the Andaman coast we were looking for a destination with a bit more sunshine. Based on weather reports we went to Koh Samet. After the drop off we were a bit scared off all the tourists, but as soon as you get away from the big beach, it is all cool. Great location, great food in walking distance, and friendly people, lovin’ it.

1. Pleherel Plage, Brittany, France

After all these beautiful places in Thailand, Brittany might be a bit odd. But this has been my holiday destination in summer for the past 33 years. And lucky for me, Natasja like it at least as much as I do. And the fact that it is a bit better reachable for us (only an 8 hour drive) make it the undisputed number one.
