Day 16: Ten tracks to brighten up blue monday

Today is Blue Monday. This is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. Therefore today I provide you with some tracks to get you through the day. To stick to the theme I only chose tracks with blue in the title (or in some case of the artist).

10. Eiffel 65 – Blue

By far one of the most annoying tracks ever created. But when you think about songs with Blue, you cannot bypass this one. To spare you the irritant original, I found a nice psytrance version.

9. Electric Light Orchestra – Mr Blue Sky

8. Neil Diamond – Song Song Blue

Neil Diamond was one of my uncle’s favorite artists. Therefore I heard my fair share of Neil during my childhood.

7. Madonna – True Blue

Madonna singing about her feelings for her them-husband Sean Penn.

6. Enya – Carribean Blue

In Holland Enya is most known for her track Orinoco Flow which reached a number 1 position in the Dutch Top 40 in 1988. Carribean Blue only made it to position 21 in 1991.

5. System F – Out of the Blue

Damn, time flies when you are having fun. This track from Dutch dj/producer Ferry Corsten is meanwhile 23 years old. Can’t remember if I have seen the videoclip before.

4. Armin – Blue Fear

From 2000 we go just a little bit more back in time. In 1997 Armin van Buuren produced his 3rd single. At the time still under the name Armin.

3. Blue Pearl – Naked in the rain

Blue Pearl consists of Durga McBroom and Martin Glover. Durga has worked as a backing vocalist for Pink Floyd. A couple of years ago she has also toured through The Netherlands with Dutch Pink Floyd tribute band Pink Floyd Project. Martin Glover aka Youth has been a long time collaborator of my favorite band The Orb.

2. The Orb – Blue Room

After confusion between singles and albums the Official Charts Company (UK) decided that the maximum allowed lenghth of a single would be 40m. The Orb had a perfect answer for this and created this 39,58m masterpiece.

1. New Order – Blue Monday

I guess everyone saw this number one coming? No doubt about this position. And if the track does not chear you up, I hope Coxy’s dance moves will do.
