Day 296: Radio Songs

The part that radio played in life has changed a lot in the last 20 years. When I was growing up there were only a couple of radio stations. Legal ones, in addition there were a lot of piracy stations. Later the bigger commercial stations like Sky Radio and later 538 came around. And since all those streaming services are around the amount of listeners to radio is still decreasing.

But back to when I was growing up. Annually there was a big radio event. Radio Veronica’s Top 100 of all times. This list played a big part in my musical education. I also remember I listened a lot to Sunshine Radio, one of the local piracy stations. A little bit later I listened to legendary radio show Curry & Van Inkel. I guess this program introduced me to Ben Liebrand.

Later on I listened to various radio stations, sometimes just following favorite DJ’s that switch to another channel. At the moment I listen the most to Radio 10. But I just listen radio when I am in the car. At home I hardly listen to radio. The only recent occassion I can remember is listening to Radio 2’s annual Top 2000. Which in fact is the current version of the Top 100 of all times.

Since radio played such an important role I was wondering if there are any great tracks about radio. After some thinking and a little bit of googling I came to the following list, enjoy!

1. Buggles – Video Killed the Radio Star

2. Queen – Radio Ga Ga

3. Dolly Dots – Radio
