Day 247: Desert Island discs

The new season of TV show Expedition Robinson started this weekend. Or at least the new Dutch season. Once again a group of ‘known’ Dutch personalities. Well, I did not even know half of them. But there are some nice people in the group, so we will see what the season brings us.

My original plan for todays blog was a list of songs about food. Especially since the participants in Robinson have to find and prepare their own food. But I could not find many great songs, most what I found were songs about drinks.

On to the 2nd plan. The participants are all dropped on a desert island, so what about Desert Island Discs? Desert Island Discs is a program on BBC Radio 4. And it is pretty long running, the first broadcast was in 1942. The concept is that people have to pick 8 albums they want to bring if they had to leave to a deserted island. Well, let’s extend the 8 till 10, and give it a go.

1. Pink Floyd – Delicate Sound of Thunder

My absolute favorite album ever across all genres. Never disappoints.

2. Sedibus – The Heavens

Sedibus is a collaboration of Alex Paterson (The Orb) and Andy Falconer. The Heavens is their stunning 2021 debut album. Unfortunately the full album is not available on Youtube, so I just share one track.

3. Dire Straits – Alchemy

Another great live concert registration. Never gets boring.

4. Kruder & Dorfmeister – The K&D Sessions

Time to lay back in the hammock and enjoy some chilled beats.

5. Leftfield – Leftism

Leftfields 1994 groundbreaking debut album. Almost 30 years old and it still sounds fresh.

6. Renaissance: The Mix Collection – Mixed by Sasha & Digweed

Another album from 1994. 3 cd’s mixed by Sasha & Digweed. Timeless!

7. Bob Marley – Dreams Of Freedom (Ambient Translations Of Bob Marley In Dub)

This one is from 1997 but I just discovered it a couple of years ago. Lovin’ this.

8. The Orb – Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld

Yes, off course there is al Orb album in this list. Tough choice, but I’ll stick with their 1991 debut album.

9. Global Underground 13: Sasha – Ibiza

I mentioned this one last week. The Global Underground series is absolutely brilliant, for me it started with GU013.

10. Pure Progressive 1 – Mixed by Orkidea

As you might have picked up I am a huge fan of Solarstone and his Pure Trance branche, but after considering I have to admit that the album I played most is Orkidea’s Pure Progressive 1.
