Day 152: Dire Straits favorites

I’m trying to stick with music, since that brings me the most joy. And it seems that my readers like that the most as well. But since I cannot do a list from a specific year everyday, I need to come up with some other ideas.

So when is an artist a favorite? In my opinion if you like and play their music quite a lot. So looking at my favorites I can easily make a Top 10. But the Top 3 I have played a whole lot more than the rest of the Top 10. My Top 3 would be The Orb, a band I follow from their first album till present day, and I also collect their music. And when it comes to collecting I’m quite Orbsessive.

The other two bands in my Top 3 would be Pink Floyd and Dire Straits. But from these bands I have just a few albums that I like very much and play a lot. You might have seen them in my favorite live album list.

So today let’s have a look at my favorite Dire Straits songs. Most of them are on their Alchemy live album. The rest in the list if I’m correct from the Brothers in Arms album.

Too bad they stopped already a long time ago. I saw them live in Rotterdam Ahoy in 1991. What a absolute great live band. Anyway, let’s go to the list. Enjoy!

10. Love over gold

9. Once upon a time in the west

Not to be confused with Ennio Morricone’s song with the same name from the movie with the same title.

8. Tunnel of love

7. Your latest trick

6. Romeo & Juliet

5. Private investigations

4. Brothers in arms

In high school I did a translation of this song for music class and scored an 8.

3. Sultans of swing

That guitar solo is one of my all time favorites.

2. Going home (theme from Local Hero)

1. Ride across the river

This one became a favorite after seeing it in a scene of TV serie The Last Ship. And off course that scene was while they were on a river.
