Day 139: More 80’s favorites 1986

Since we are now enjoying some time off in France, our life is getting less complicated. Just enjoying the weather, get some food, be outside all day and relax. Lovin’ it. But it also means less inspiration taken from the normal daily routine.

Luckily there’s always plenty of music popping up in my head. Today Billy Ocean’s – When the going gets tough popped up. The song is from 1985, but made it to the Dutch Top 40 in 1986. Looking at the songs from that year, some great music came by. So here are some favorites from 1986.

10. Lee Towers & Anita Meyer – Run to me

This one could also have been in the guilty pleasures list I made earlier. Not something I would normally play at home, but when it comes by, I’m singing along.

9. Europe – The final countdown

This was the first 12″ single in my collection. Still have it.

8. El Debarge – Who’s Johnny

I big hit in the Netherlands that year.

7. Survivor – Burning heart

Soundtrack of the 4th Rocky movie. Rocky fighting Ivan Drago.

6. MC Miker G & DJ Sven – Holiday rap

Dutch duo who concered Europe that year. Sven is still active as a DJ on Dutch radio station Radio 10.

5. Cock Robin – The promise you made

Don’t know much about this song besides it has a great melody.

4. Timex Social Club – Rumours

Didn’t we all use to sing/rap along with this one?

3. Mr Mister – Broken Wings

1986 was a great year for Mr Mister. Besides with Broken Wings, they also scored another big hit with Kyrie.

2. Pet Shop Boys – West End girls

Love the bassline in this one. A good friend of mine is a huge fan of PSB. Everytime there is a concert I say I join him. So far, it still hasn’t happened.

1. Falco – Jeanny

Absolutely brilliant song, with a dark dramatic theme. Have played this a million times.
