Day 123: Favorite music from 1988

Yep, another musical list today. For tomorrow and the day after I already have a Top10 ready, so today I’m gonna keep it simple again. Although that is not exactly true since there is just so much great music around that my shortlist already has 30 tracks. Narrowing that down to 10 can be a tough job.

Why 88? Well, as you may already have noticed music wise the 80s made a huge impression. And since today is 3/5 (or in other parts of the world 5/3) and 5 + 3 = 8, so therefore today we go back to the year 88. The year where Holland won the European Football Championship, and the time when I still liked to watch football. These days I’m go a big fan of the game, so let’s stick to the music.

10. Eddy Grant – Gimme Hope Jo Anna 1988

While the song and melody seem pretty happy, this actually a song about apartheid in South Africa.

9. Billy Ocean – Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car

Beep, beep, yeah

8. Taylor Dayne – Tell It to My Heart

This song might pop up in another list later this year since hardhouse legend did a remix of this.

7. Belinda Carlisle – Heaven Is A Place On Earth

Still a great song. Last year Solarstone was using it in his set at a boat party we attended.

6. The Wee Papa Girl Rappers – Wee Rule

From their debut album The Beat, the Rhyme, the Noise.

5. Womack & Womack – Teardrops

Hitsong by husband/wife Cecil & Linda Womack. Cecil is the brother of Bobby Womack.

4. Yazz – The Only Way Is Up

3. S’Express – Theme from S’Express

Slowly we are picking up some tunes moving on to house music.

2. Inner City – Big Fun

Formed by Detroit house music pioneer Kevin Saunderson, this group conquered all dance floors around the world. Still a killer track.

1. Salt ‘n Pepa – Push it

Girl power to da max!
