Day 121: 10 favorite songs from 1983

So, during the weekend both me and Natasja were wondering how old a certain (Dutch) song is. It turned out to be from 1983. So at that time we were 9 or 10. Quite some time ago. Off course this song is not a good sample of the other great music that was made that year. Even with Dutch songs I could easily compile a list of 10 favorites. But for today’s list I’ll stick to English songs. Although I did not speak/understand English at that age. I also tried to focus on songs that made an impression at that age. There are a lot of songs from that year that I only discovered later. So here are the favorites of a 9 or 10 year old boy in 1983.

10. Tracey Ullman – Breakaway

9. Paul Young – Come Back and Stay

8. Laid Back – Sunshine Reggae

7. Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson – Say say say

I can’t recollect if I ever have seen that music video, nice one! And damn, are they young or not?

6. Kajagoogoo – Too Shy

5. The Star Sisters – Stars on 45

4. Mike Oldfield ft. Maggie Reilly – Moonlight Shadow

And again an Orb connection since The Orb remixed Mike Oldfield’s Sentinel.

3. Dexys Midnight Runners – Come on Eileen

2. Irene Cara – Fame

The first 7″ single I bought, and I still have it.

1. Rock Steady Crew – Hey You

Probably my first encounter with hiphop. At a later stage in life I bought the 12″.

  1. Nico Van Rijn

Ik kan me helemaal vinden in deze lijst.
Ik heb bij elk nummer toch wel een bepaalde herinnering.
