Day 97: Favorite Music from 1974

Yesterday I was building a new IKEA wardrobe. Today I hope to finish this. Besides that I have some other stuff to do. Therefore I was looking for some quick blog inspiration this morning. Could not find any until I noticed the date. Today, it is April 7th, in the Dutch date notification 7/4, so un easy step to 1974. Should have thought about that earlier. As you know I love music and for every year I can always find some decent tracks to share. And besides sharing, for me it is also sometimes a rediscovering of music I had forgotten about.

So back to 1974. Since I was just around on this planet off course I do not have direct memories to the music from that year. But later in life I picked up lot’s of the great music and built memories from there. So here we go, favorite music from 1974.

10. Nazareth – Love Hurts

Back in the 80s radio station Veronica once a year broadcasted the Top 100 Of All Times. This song was always in that list.

9. Joe Cocker – You Are So Beautiful

I hink it was in the early 90s that I got tricked in a subscription for ECI Bookclub. Besides books you could also choose CD’s. At some point I ordered Joe Cocker’s Live album. This track was on it.

8. Supertramp – Dreamer

I friend from school had the Very Best of Supertramp album. I made a copy of it (on cassette) and played it a lot.

7. Queen – Killer Queen

Picked this one also from a compilation album.

6. Kraftwerk – Autobahn

Not something I play a lot, but Kraftwerk has been a major influence on all electronic music.

5. Lynyrd Skynyrd – Sweet Home Alabama

Was not aware of this song until the Forrest Gump movie.

4. Minnie Riperton – Lovin’ You

Sampled by my favorite band The Orb for their single A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centres Of The Ultraworld. But there are a lot more great remixes from this song. If you like it hard, check this one. And I just discovered this one by Dave 202.

3. Supertramp – School

Another one by Supertramp. I remember playing this one on my (Sony Sports) walkman while cycling to school. Love the harmonica intro.

2. Eric Clapton – I Shot The Sheriff

Written by Bob Marley, but Eric Claptop released a cover version from it in 1974. Although I like the bit of rock that Mr Slowhand added, I still prefer Bob Marley’s version.

1. Bob Marley – No Woman, No Cry

From one Bob Marley track to the next one. Although there are more live versions available on Youtube, this one from the Bob Marley and the Wailers Live! album is by far the best IMHO.
