Since I alreday posted a lot of music in my Top10 lists, this got me thinking about videoclips. Music videos were upcoming in the 80s, so a lot of artists made pretty impressive music video’s to promote their music. In the 90s there were some good ones too. And at that time we had several music stations on TV. I’m not even sure if we still have these at the moment. They are certainly not on top of mind. But the whole music video thing got me wondering what my favorite music video’s are. Well, I had a thought and here are my favorites. You might want to ring the old man alert, since most of the video’s are from the 80s.
10. Manau – La tribu de Dana
The most recent video in this list. As mentioned in previous lists, the video is shot at Fort La Latte which is close to the camping where I go in summer. Extra funfact: in 1957 a movie Vikings was shot here with Kirk Douglas.
9. Beastie Boys – (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right
Don’t we all want to throw a party like in that video? I remember I wanted! Apparently the video is age restricted, so I cannot embed the video.
8. Genesis – Land Of Confusion
At that time there was a television show called Spitting Image on BBC Television. At some point a puppet of Phil Collins was used. He was inspired by that and asked the creators of the show to make puppets for the music video.
7. A-ha – Take on me
Still a great song and video. Love what they did with the sketched drawings.
6. Paula Abdul – Opposites Attract
This video won a Grammy award for best short music video. Completely right if you ask me.
5. Madonna – Like A Prayer
Madonna wanted this video to be the most provacative video she has done so far. Mission accomplished at that time.
4. Duran Duran – The Wild Boys
British Video of the year in 1985. Costs of making this video were a staggering million pounds.
3. Kate Bush – Cloudbusting
Love it when the music video is telling a little story. And looking back Donald Sutherland is already looking old in this video. Hard to believe he is still acting these days.
2. Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora – When the Rain Begins to Fall
I mentioned this one before in my guilty pleasure list. Just like the previous entry I love a bit story telling.
1. Michael Jackson – Thriller
From one Jackson to the other. Michael really took storytelling to the next level with the 14minute music video for thriller.
Bonus clip
Not all music videos made an impression because of the video or the good music. Sometimes other elements of a music video made a big impression. Especially when the watcher of the video is a 14/15 year old teenager… And again, a video with an age restriction, so here’s the link to the video on Youtube.
