Day 60: Favorite 2023 F1 Drivers

Just a few more days till the Formula 1 season will start again. Finally the winter stop ends 🙂 At the moment I’m watching Drive to survive on Netflix. For some teams or drivers it is painful to watch and I almost feel sorry for some of them. On the other hand I have the feeling you get to see a little bit more from them, then just the driver or team principal. For some people that helps, while for some others I still don’t get any warm feelings at all. Anyway, it is too soon to start predictions about the course of the season (I might do that after one or two races). For now I’m just compiling a list of my favorite drivers from this season. They can be favorite because I have seen a good interview, because they are funny, or whatever. This is absolutely not a list of just best drivers.

No embedded video’s today, apparently the FIA does not like that very much… I have added links to these gents official websites.

10. Oscar Piastri

I have to admit I do not follow the other Formula car classes, so besides some of the highlist I noticed on TV or on Youtube, I do noit know that much about Oscar yet. But when I read (or see) some of the comments all around the internet it seems like he is worlchampion material. For me he made it to this list because of the way he shook the grid by leaving Alpine and choosing for McLaren.

9. Sergio Pérez

Checo is a very consistent driver. I’m glad for him he got the opportunity to join Red Bull. Not as funny as Max’ previous teammate Danny Ricciardo, but looking back at last season he played a big role in winning the constructor championship and helping Max to get his 2nd world championship.

8. Alexander Albon

Pretty talented driver in my opinion. Maybe the move to Red Bull was a bit to soon in his career. Besides that he can also be pretty funny.

7. Yuki Tsunoda

Too bad Yuki got more coaching regarding his language use in the car. It is so funny when he is losing it.

6. Kevin Magnussen

Another constant factor that had to leave the team, but then made his comeback. Love the love/hate relationship with team principal Gunther Steiner. And with the limited resources from Haas I think Kevin had a pretty decent season.

5. Fernando Alonso

Mr Bad Boy, or Mr Wannabe Bad Boy. Love the brutal move to Aston Martin. Although I’m hoping it is not just for the money. I loved the way he kept Hamilton behind him for a long time at the Hungary GP 2021.

4. Carlos Sainz

So glad Carlos finally won his first race. Well deserved in my opinion. He seems to be a lot more sympathetic than his teammate Leclerc.

3. Lando Norris

Another young and very talented driver. Curious what the next season will bring him. I enjoyed the funny team video’s with DannyRic a lot last year.

2. Max Verstappen

Our Dutch pride, what a hero. By far the most talented driver on the grid IMHO. Sometimes I doubted that the man has emotions. Good to see him back on Drive to Survive. He is becoming more human to me. I doubt is he is really going to finish his contract till 2028. There is a chance he will quit sooner because he already won everything. But if he does, he might become the first Dutch sporter to gain more than a billion.

1. Nico Hülkenberg

As you may have noticed, the fun factor was a big part of this list. And Nico seems like Mr Fun to me. Since he lived in Holland at the start of his career he speaks a little bit Dutch. For me that made the interviews with Ziggo pit reporter Jack Plooij extra funny. Some people doubt if Nico is not too old and if he really has the talent? Well, there is a reason why teams bypass their 3rd driver and choose for The Hulk as a replacement driver…

More Formula 1 related Top10’s will follow.
