Day 44: My favorite writers (fiction)

For some time now I am thinking about my favorite books. But since I have read so many it is really hard to pick a favorite one. I have always been a fan of books. After all kind of books during my childhood I moved on to the action/espionage genre from writers like Alistair MacLean, Desmond Bagley and Colin Forbes. You might say that my taste in movies and TV series is similar when it comes to books. Since it is so hard to pick favorite books, let’s narrow it down to favorite writers. That seemed a lot easier, so here are my favorites.

10. Brad Thor

Have not read all books so far, but from the Scot Harvath series I have read almost all. Scot Harvath is an ex-Navy Seal and ex Secret Service agent. In the current situation he is working as a covert counter terrorism agent. You might see his character as a modern version of James Bond.

9. Nicci French

Not one, but two writers. Nicci French is the pseudonym for English husband/wife writers couple Nicci Gerrard and Sean French. When talkingh about Nicci French the Frieda Klein series is my favorite. A psycho analist working for the police with some mental issues herself.

8. Robert Bryndza

From Frieda Klein over yo more succesfull women. Robert Bryndza is running two series. The Erika Foster series about a police detective who solves all kind of cruel crimes. The Kate Marshall series is similar, but Kate is not working for the police (anymore). I can highly recommend both series.

7. Robert Galbraith

Robert Galbraith is the pseudonym of JK Rowling who wrote the Harry Potter series. Not a big fan of that, but I do love the Cormoran Strike series. Cormoran is a kind of grumpy private detective in London. When his new employee Robin starts working for him he is getting less grumpy. Exiting crimes, good sense of cynical humor and a slice of some romance. The books got adapted for a good TV series as well.

6. John Grisham

Do I need to introduce this man? Don’t think so. Finding someone who never read one of his books or watched one of the movies based on his books might be a difficult job.

5. Michael Connelly

Connelly is well known for two different characters: Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller (The Lincoln Lawyer). Since the two are half brothers occasionally the team up in one of the books. Harry Bosch is an LA police officer while Mickey Haller is a lawyer who runs his business from the back of his car. Both characters got their own TV series as well.

4. Lee Child

Jack Reacher is 6′ 5″ tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 210 and 250 pounds (100–115 kg). So when they casted Tom Cruise to play his part in a movie I was pretty pissed off. So not what you imagine while reading a book. Both Reacher movies turned out to be pretty OK. But the TV series is even better.

3. David Baldacci

How many different series with characters can someone write? Baldacci proves you can do at least 8, next do that he also wrote about a dozen standalone novels. Great stories, great suspension.

2. Steve Cavanagh

Just like John Grisham Steve Cavanagh writes about lawyers. In this case Eddy Flynn, a brilliant lawyer who has some nice tricks on his sleeve.

1. James Patterson

Another man who proves you can do multiple brilliant series to eachother. The Alex Cross series is great, Woman’s Murder Club was great. His last three President Novels are superb.

Robert Ludlum, Clive Cussler, Gregg Hurwitz and Vince Flynn did not make the Top10 but are worth reading too.
